It all started with Dave Ramsey. Well, sort of.
October 24th, 2015 was the best day of my life. On that day, I had the privilege of marrying my lovely wife Christina surrounded by my friends and family.
I was overjoyed.
I was ecstatic.
I was nervous as hell.
I felt like I crossed this amazing threshold into adulthood. It was no longer just about me; my life was about us. Shortly after we officially became Mr. and Mrs. Nick Matiash, I had this urge to step up as a man. I wanted to make sure that my family was taken care in every way possible.
I started with our bank account. I wanted to make sure our financial house was in order. This is where Dave Ramsey comes back into play. My mom had gifted his book The Total Money Makeover to me years ago, but it had collected an inch or two of dust on it’s cover. I figured this was a good enough place to start, so I made plans to read it on the plane as we headed off for our honeymoon. I finished it before we even took off.
The beauty of Ramsey’s book was it’s emphasis on action. It wasn’t just quotes and quips about money and how to build wealth; he laid out a plan that I could put to use. I took one of the first steps he offered and put it to the test, and within a year my wife and I had paid off both of our cars. There wasn’t a seismic shift in our lifestyle, but the changes we made based on the advice Ramsey gave in his book freed up our budget so that we could pursue bigger and better things in life.
This experience was a revelation to me. I began to ask the question, “What if there’s more books out there that offered up similar action steps, but focused on success, happiness, and living the best life possible?”
As it turns out, there are plenty such books.
I first turned to these books, then to podcasts, and then to coaches and mentors in my search to continually grow.
I dove in head first down the rabbit hole of personal growth and development and have yet to come up for air. In the process, I have expanded my network of positive, life altering people, created new streams of income that have improved my family’s quality of life, and have helped other people create similar levels of change in their lives through my 1-1 and group coaching programs.
This shift in perspective has changed my life.
I want to help bring that same change to your life. I want to help you move past mediocre.
