Happiness. Joy. Success. Love. Gratitude. Wealth. Health.
They are all inside jobs.
Your circumstances are not getting in the way of your happiness.
Your boss isn’t the reason you’re not successful.
Your local pizza place and their incredible stuffed crust pizza can’t be blamed for your bulging waist line.
Far too many of us are living from the outside-in. We look to outer markers to validate our levels of happiness, love, success, and so on. We wait for a certain amount of zeroes in the bank before we feel successful. We need constant positive stimuli from the world around us to feel happy. We wait for someone to show us our worth before we feel loved. I’m just as guilty as anyone. Hell, most of the stuff I write and share is a reminder to myself that there’s a better way to live this one life we’ve got.
But we’ve been tricked.
It’s not the people, places, and things around us that need to hand us what we want. It is the obligation of our own hearts and minds to create and recognize everything we desire.
It’s not my wife’s job to keep me happy; what a burden that would be. It’s on me. It’s my responsibility.
It’s not my bank account that gets to tell me if I’m successful. Do I need to make money to survive? Sure. But I don’t need to swim in my money to be content.
It’s not a trainer, a grocery store, or restaurant’s responsibility to keep me healthy. It all falls on my shoulders.
Take ownership of everything that makes you feel alive. Want to feel happy? Smile. Want to feel successful? Put the work in until you’re content with your impact on the world. Want to be healthy? Get off the couch and move around for once.
We are not victims of our circumstances, we are victors. We have the power to either find perspective or change our position in everything that we do.
Life is an inside job. You can’t change what’s going on around you until you change what’s going on within you.
